Hungary dominated in the pool at the 2024 European Aquatic Championships this year, winning a total of 27 medals with 10 gold – more than double any other team.
Hungary’s medals are the most ever by the nation. The country won two gold medals on Sunday night as Hubert Kos won the men’s 200 IM and Ajna Kesely won the women’s 400 freestyle.
Greece also had a big night. The country had a 1-2 finish in two events. First, Kristian Gkolomeev and Stergios Marios Bilas went 1-2 in the men’s 50 free. Two events later, Apostolos Christou and Evangelos Makrygiannis went 1-2 in the men’s 100 backstroke.
Greece ended the European Aquatic Championships in second place with 17 medals in total – five gold, eight silver and four bronze.
Also having an impressive night was Poland who won two gold medals. Dominika Sztandera won the women’s 50 breaststroke in a 30.55, marking a new Polish National Record. Later in the night, Sztandera helped the women’s 4×100 medley relay to gold and another national record.
After winning its first ever swimming gold last night, Turkey won its second-ever European title as Kunzey Tuncelli won the men’s 1500 free in a 14:55.64.
