Former journalist of The Greek Herald Giorgos Galanis passes away

Much-loved former journalist of The Greek Herald, Giorgos Galanis, passed away on Sunday, January 14 at the age of 78.

Born on March 12, 1945 in Vlachon, Laconia, Greece, Mr Galanis migrated to Australia in 1968. He was married to Adriana Galanis, who passed away in June 2023, and they had a son named Antonis.

He began working as a journalist at Neos Kosmos, before he was hired by the late publisher of Foreign Language Press and The Greek Herald, Theodoros Skalkos.

He worked with The Greek Herald team for many years, even contributing to the Ellinis magazine for years prior to his death.

Current publisher at The Greek Herald, Dimitra Skalkos, expressed her condolences to Mr Galanis’ family for their loss.

“We were devastated to hear news of Mr Galanis’ passing,” Ms Skalkos said. “He made significant contributions to journalism in the Greek Australian community and will certainly be remembered.”
