British PM cancels meeting with Kyriakos Mitsotakis amid Parthenon Marbles dispute

·

The British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak cancelled his meeting with Greece’s Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Monday at the last minute.

The meeting was scheduled to take place in London, the United Kingdom, to discuss the return of the Parthenon Marbles that are still being held by the British Museum.

The cancellation comes after Mitsotakis spoke to BBC’s Laura Kuenssberg, stating the marbles should be returned to Greece.

In response to the cancellation, Mitsotakis said he was left feeling very frustrated.

“I express my annoyance at the fact that the British prime minister canceled our scheduled meeting a few hours before it was due to take place,” Mitsotakis said.

“Greece and Britain are united by traditional ties of friendship and the framework of our bilateral relations is extremely broad.”
