Sydney’s Greek community mourns sudden loss of Divinity Funerals director Denne Cruz

The sudden death of Divinity Funerals director Denne (Dionysi) Cruz has sent shockwaves through Sydney’s Greek community today.

Mr Cruz passed away on Monday, November 6 and leaves behind his loving wife and three young children.

Mr Cruz’s Facebook page has been flooded with messages from friends and family mourning his loss and remembering him as a selfless, kind and empathetic man.

“Denne, you were the sunshine and the stars in our darkest moments… You were an amazing person who will be dearly loved and missed always,” one person wrote.

“A beautiful soul gone way to early!” another wrote.

Mr Cruz was raised in Kentucky, USA, in an abusive home for most of his childhood before he left home at an early age and spent stages of his life homeless. Later, in 2001, he met his wife in Sydney, Australia, and became a Greek Orthodox Christian.

Mr Cruz’s funeral will be held on Friday, November 17 at 11am at All Saints Greek Orthodox Church in Belmore followed by a burial at Rookwood Catholic Cemetery. The wake will be at the Pan-Arcadian Club in Ashbury.
