The charity soccer match in Melbourne, which was organised by stroke survivor and operator of The Disabled CEO website Michael Maher with the support of the Stroke Foundation and Malvern City Football Club, was held with great success.

The purpose of the event was to raise funds towards sponsorship for Nicole Christodolou for the Para Asian Cup being played in Melbourne from 31 October to 12 November 2023.

Nicole had two strokes at the age of 21, leaving her paralysed on her left side. But she never stopped her from playing soccer. She is a member of the ParaMatildas – Australia’s first national team for women and girls with cerebral palsy, acquired brain injury and symptoms of stroke.

The charity match was held on Sunday, October 8, at Gardiner Park in Glen Iris, Melbourne, with independent mixed card teams of all ages.

The main fundraising goal of the event was largely achieved after raising the very respectable amount of $8,000.

At the end of the event, Nicole said in a statement to The Greek Herald: “I am very pleased with the success of the tournament and first of all I want to thank Michael Maher, Malvern City Football Club, the athletes who took part in the tournament, the referees and all the volunteers who helped and contributed to the success of the tournament.”
