Mark Philippoussis dumped again by tennis star Stefanos Tsitsipas

·

Stefanos Tsitsipas has dumped Greek Australian tennis star Mark Philippoussis for a second time, revealing on Wednesday that his father Apostolos Tsitsipas will be returning as his head coach.

In an interview with Tennis TV, Stefanos shared that his father will resume coaching him on the ATP circuit in hopes of rounding off the 2023 season on a positive note.

Stefanos first worked with Philippoussis in mid-2022 before parting ways. In August this year, Stefanos re-hired Philippoussis as head coach while his father “took a break.”

“Mark Philippoussis is not part of the team any more. I wanted to try with a coach and I wanted to see how that might work,” Stefanos said in his interview.

“Not having the presence of my dad there, I felt like I was losing part of my identity as a player. I wasn’t just able to adjust to the new form, or ways, or teachings or methods that were applied by Mark, whom I admire and liked watching on TV when I was younger.”

Stefanos said his father is now “here to stay” as his head coach.

“I have no intention of ever changing my dad or pushing him away” the Greek star said.
