Young couple, Peter and Ria Chrisafis, have shared their struggle to buy a dream home in Sydney, New South Wales, amid skyrocketing prices at auctions.

Peter and Ria told The Daily Telegraph they weren’t prepared to pay $850,000 for a home back in 2021, but at a Greystanes auction this year they were prepared to fork out $1.6 million.

Recent data shows house values in the area that includes Greystanes and Merrylands have jumped by nine per cent this year.

Peter said he thought property prices were in “a bubble” at the time. He has since changed his mind. Recent data shows house values in the area that includes Greystanes and Merrylands have jumped by nine per cent this year.

“It’s just getting worse and worse right now,” Ria told The Daily Telegraph.

The couple have since decided to put their house hunting on hold as they prepare to welcome their first child.
