Maria Sakkari storms into Guadalajara Open semi-final

·

Maria Sakkari comfortably overcame the obstacle of Emiliana Arango and booked a place in the semi-finals of the Guadalajara Open in Mexico.

Dominating the match, the Greek tennis player defeated the 22-year-old Colombian 6-3, 6-4.

Arango threatened first in the match but after missing three break points in the third game, she lost her serve and Maria went 3-1 ahead. She had three set points when Arango served at 5-2, but she finally managed to close out the first set when she took the points in the next game.

Things got easier in the second set when Maria scored two breaks and led 4-1, but a small change gave Arango the chance to take three straight games and come alive.

Sakkari, however, cut her lead to 5-4, as she was more decisive this time sealing the qualification on her second match point.

Sakkari next faces Caroline Garcia in the semi-finals.
