Australia’s Matildas progress to Women’s World Cup round of 16

·

Australia’s Matildas have put on a clinical performance to smash Canada 4-0 in the Women’s World Cup on Monday night at Melbourne’s Rectangular Stadium.

Hayley Raso scored twice before Mary Fowler and captain Steph Catley got the remaining goals in an impressive victory for the Australians.

Star striker Samantha Kerr sat on the bench during the match, giving her extra time to rest her troublesome calf.

But that didn’t dampen spirits, with The Greek Herald capturing Australian fans smiling and cheering as they watched their team come out victorious.

The win means Australia will top its group after Nigeria and Ireland drew in their clash in Brisbane.

The Matildas will face the second-placed team in Group D in Sydney on Monday, August 7, with England, Denmark and China all possible opponents.
