The Greek Orthodox Community and Church of Canberra and Districts (GOCCC) has raised almost $9,000 through a successful trivia fundraiser supporting the Greek School of Canberra.
The fundraiser, held on Friday, May 29, brought together students, teachers, parents and members of the wider community in support of Greek language and cultural education in the nation’s capital.
GOCCC President John Loukadellis thanked everyone who attended, donated or contributed to the evening’s success.
Mr Loukadellis also acknowledged Petros Satsia and the Greek Emerging Leaders committee for organising and running the event on behalf of the GOCCC and the school.

Funds raised came through ticket sales, raffle proceeds and online donations, alongside significant contributions from community organisations and supporters.
Among the donations was $500 from the Cretan Association of Canberra and Districts Incorporated, $1,000 from the St Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church Canberra Women’s Auxiliary, and a major $3,000 contribution from Honorary Consul General of Greece in Queensland George Mastrocostas and family.
Mr Loukadellis said Mr Mastrocostas, who was visiting Canberra with an artist from Greece, contacted him after seeing the fundraiser advertised and offered his support for the Greek school.
“He is a huge supporter of the Hellenic language, faith and culture,” Mr Loukadellis said.
“On behalf of the children, teachers and everyone involved with our Greek School – thank you everyone for your generosity and support.”
