St. Andrews Grammar showcases sporting strength for National Schools Event 2025

·

St. Andrew’s Grammar in Dianella has cemented its status as a rising powerhouse in school sport after a commanding performance at the 2025 Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia National Schools Event (GOAANSE), hosted in Perth from May 6–9.

In a rotation system of seven schools, it was the Perth schools’ turn to host – and St. Andrew’s Grammar not only welcomed over 400 student athletes, coaches, and staff from across six interstate Greek Orthodox schools, but also delivered a dominant on-field performance that marked a new chapter for the school.

In a tournament guided by the values of Φιλοξενία και Φιλία (Hospitality and Friendship), St. Andrew’s Grammar lived up to its hosting responsibilities with distinction – and exceeded expectations in competition.

St. Andrews was crowned Champion School, taking out five of the eleven contested titles: Girls’ Netball, Boys’ and Girls’ Football, Girls’ Futsal, and Boys’ Table Tennis.

“Winning the overall Champion School trophy is a historic achievement for us,” Principal Craig Monaghan said.

“It’s a powerful reflection of the talent and dedication of our student athletes, and of the strength of our Perth Glory Football and High-Performance Netball Academies.

“In 27 years of GOAANSE, we had only ever won four championships — this year, we won five in just three days. The girls’ Futsal title was especially meaningful, hot on the heels of their recent win in the WA Secondary Futsal State Championship — further proof of the school’s consistent sporting excellence.”

GOAANSE 2025 included events in Futsal, Volleyball, Netball, Football, Basketball, and Table Tennis, along with a Performing Arts Showcase and Dinner Dance.

The games were officially opened with a celebration at St. Nektarios Church in Dianella and concluded with a closing ceremony at the school.

Months of preparation went into the successful staging of the event, with St Andrew’s Grammar staff working tirelessly for over eight months to ensure a welcoming and professionally run tournament.

“I am incredibly proud of our entire team,” Mr Monaghan added. “The staff commitment to creating a
warm, inclusive and respectful environment for our guests from across the country was extraordinary.

“GOAANSE 2025 showed what St. Andrew’s Grammar – and Perth – can offer on a national stage.”

Principal of St. Euphemia College in Sydney, Penny Pachos, also praised the event.

“It was a joy to witness students from across the country come together in friendly competition, proudly representing their schools and showcasing their talents in an environment grounded in unity, respect, and friendship,” Ms Pachos said.

“Most significantly, the students had an opportunity to build meaningful connections, forged through shared experiences and a collective pursuit of excellence.”

St. Euphemia will host the GOAANSE tournament in 2026.
