Greek men’s water polo team qualifies for Sydney 2026 World Cup Final Eight

After their win in Alexandroupolis against the Netherlands, Greece’s Men’s Water Polo team will compete for the 2026 World Aquatics Water Polo Cup in Sydney this July.

Greece, alongside Hungary, Italy and Spain, has qualified for the Water Polo World Cup Final Eight after qualifying for the the upper group (1st – 4th place) at the waterpolo World Cup Division 1 tournament in Alexandroupolis.

In the Division 1 tournament, Greece beat the Netherlands 14:11, securing their place in the final eight.

Greece’s standout players were Stylianos Argyropoulos, who played a decisive role in attack and sealed the win with the final goal, Dimitrios Nikolaidis, who contributed an important late score, and Dimitrios Skoumpakis, who added a crucial goal to extend the lead in the closing minutes.

In Sydney, the teams will play three games in a round-robin format in two new groups. They all start from zero and the results from the first phase will not be carried over.

Serbia, Croatia, the Netherlands, and the USA are set to play for 5th place and will battle for the last available Final Eight spot.
