Greek Australian teen George Tsamouras signs with Greek Super League 2 team

·

George Tsamouras, a 16-year-old football player from New South Wales, has signed with under 19s Greek Super League 2 football team A.S.A Kardita FC.

The ex-Newcastle Olympic and Newcastle Jets Academy player will join the professional Greek team for the 2023-2024 season.

This news comes after George decided to move to Karditsa, his grandparent’s hometown, after securing his European passport earlier this year, with hopes to take his love for football internationally.

Within three weeks of trials, he was offered the position on the Under 19s team.

A.S.A Karditsa FC is one of the oldest football clubs in Greece and holds the record of most played seasons for Greece’s second division than any other.

Prior to accepting this offer, the Hunter Sports High School student flew to Greece in August this year, where he completed trials with Asteras Tripolis and Panathinaikos.

George’s love for football began from a young age, where he joined Newcastle Olympic FC at age six.

George’s achievements include being selected for the Under 15s NSW State Team, receiving Player of the Year in 2021 while on the Newcastle Olympic U15s team, and being offered a position in the Newcastle Jets Academy for 2022.

He then helped lead the Under 16s Newcastle Jets to victory in their Premiership and grand final.
