Trump claims Israel and Iran agree to ‘complete and total’ ceasefire

·

US President Donald Trump has announced what he described as a “Complete and Total” ceasefire between Israel and Iran, set to begin within six hours and aiming to mark the end of the 12-day conflict.

In a post on social media, Trump claimed both sides had agreed to a phased ceasefire: “It has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a Complete and Total CEASEFIRE (in approximately 6 hours from now, when Israel and Iran have wound down and completed their in progress, final missions!), for 12 hours, at which point the War will be considered, ENDED.”

He added that Iran would begin the ceasefire, followed by Israel after 12 hours, with a formal end to the war recognised 24 hours later.

“During each CEASEFIRE, the other side will remain PEACEFUL and RESPECTFUL,” Trump wrote.

Vice President JD Vance praised Trump during a Fox News interview, saying: “That’s good news, that the president was able to get that across the finish line.” Vance also revealed he had reviewed a draft of the statement just before going on air and confirmed Trump had been “working the phones” to secure the deal.

Vance further claimed, “Iran is incapable of building a nuclear weapon with the equipment they have, because we destroyed it.”

As of now, neither Israel nor Iran has issued any official confirmation of the ceasefire, and CNN has requested further details from the White House.
