Sydney café-goers should expect higher coffee prices as China’s growing demand disrupts global supply, warns Chris Nikolakopoulos, co-founder of Kaffeina Group.
“The China factor, it’s powerful,” Nikolakopoulos told The Daily Telegraph, noting that the surge in consumption, coupled with droughts in major coffee-producing regions and rising freight costs, will drive prices up.
Café owners, already absorbing increased costs, say they can no longer hold off on price hikes. Industry experts predict a rise of up to $1 per cup, as Australian buyers struggle to compete with China’s purchasing power.
Nikolakopoulos emphasised that with supply shortages and global market shifts, Sydney’s coffee culture is facing inevitable change.
