Summer 2025 ranked Greece’s third hottest in 65 years

·

This year’s summer ranked as the third hottest in Greece since 1960, according to the country’s meteorological service, Meteo.

Researchers at Meteo analyzed climate data and found that the summer of 2025 was 1.5°C warmer than the 1991–2020 seasonal average, ekathimerini.com, has reported.

June 2025 stood out as the second warmest June in the past 65 years, while July was the fourth hottest. August, however, aligned more closely with typical seasonal conditions. Overall, this summer resembled that of 2021 and was just 0.3°C cooler than the second hottest summer on record, 2012.

The hottest summer remains 2024, which outpaced all other years by a significant margin.

Data also reveals a broader warming trend: between 1960 and 2025, the country’s average summer temperature rose by 2.4°C.
