Serial Ballarat drug driver Carly Galakos faces court over latest offence

·

Carly Galakos has appeared at Ballarat Magistrates’ Court after pleading guilty to driving with drugs in her system, with the court noting her extensive history of offending.

The incident occurred just after 9pm on June 16, when police caught Galakos on Remembrance Drive in Cardigan travelling 96 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.

Checks revealed her licence had been cancelled in 2024, and a subsequent oral fluid test returned positive for methamphetamine.

Magistrate Letizia Torres highlighted Galakos’ repeated speeding and drug-driving offences.

Referring to a character reference and apology letter that failed to mention drugs, she said: “She hasn’t got to the bottom of it, that’s for sure.”

“This is very dangerous for the community and I’m not persuaded anything’s been done over a number of years,” Torres added.

“This is not acceptable to the community for you to keep on driving with drugs in your system and speeding, which has happened over and over and over again.”

Galakos will be assessed for a community corrections order and is due to return to court in December.

The magistrate warned she was “in more serious trouble than what perhaps you thought.”
