Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis held a phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Saturday, following an initiative by the Israeli leader.

During the conversation, Mitsotakis stressed the importance of de-escalation in the region.

While acknowledging that Iran must not acquire nuclear weapons, he emphasised that “the solution lies in diplomacy” and warned that “the last thing the region needs is new fronts of conflict.”

Mitsotakis also strongly called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, the release of hostages, and the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid.
