·

The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia has announced the organisation of a concert titled: “100 Years of Mimis Plessas: A Live Tribute with Dimitris Basis,” to be held at the iconic Adelaide Town Hall on Friday, 22 May 2026, at 7:30 pm.

This is a special musical tribute to the great Greek composer Mimis Plessas, whose imprint on modern Greek music is indelible, and whose melodies have been loved by audiences of different generations, both within Greece and abroad.

As a piano soloist, conductor, and composer, Plessas earned widespread recognition in his homeland and received numerous international distinctions. He wrote hundreds of songs, collaborated with leading performers, and composed music for more than 100 films and 70 theatrical productions. His work has touched the hearts of millions, including Greeks of the diaspora, and especially those in Australia.

In this tribute concert in Adelaide, the remarkable body of work of Plessas will be brought to life through the beautiful voice of the beloved Greek singer Dimitris Basis.

Joining him on stage will be the acclaimed Greek-Australian conductor George Ellis and the multi-talented Maria Yiakoulis, flautist and vocalist, accompanied by a full symphony orchestra and traditional Greek instruments.

The evening promises a high artistic standard and deeply moving moments for all who attend at the magnificent Adelaide Town Hall.
