Greece Has Entered Final Stretch for Hellenikon Project

·

“We have entered the final stretch, everything has been put into order,” Development and Investments Minister Adonis Georgiadis said on Monday regarding the progress of the Hellenikon project.

Speaking to “Praktoreio 104.9 FM”, the Athens-Macedonian News Agency’s (ANA) radio station, Georgiadis said that a draft bill tabled by Infrastructure and Transport ministry in Parliament included all regulations to facilitate the immediate start of works in Hellenikon project, “soon after completion of an international tender for the casino license”. The minister said Hard Rock International has a January 31 deadline to lodge an appeal against a decision awarding the license to the other candidate in the tender. “I can understand it when a company losing a tender is not pleased but in a tender someone loses, someone wins,” Georgiadis said.

He underlined the need to begin a public consultation on what to do with the area of the current airport in Heraklion, Crete, ahead of the start of works for the construction of a new international airport in Kasteli.

Commenting on the course of the Greek economy and the prospect of renegotiating targets for primary surpluses, Georgiadis said: “The first indications are excellent, all international organisations are revising their forecasts for the growth of the Greek economy upwards, credit rating agencies are upgrading Greece, interest rates continue falling – I don’t see why we cannot move exceptionally…A discussion has begun on surpluses and decisions are expected in the next few weeks. I am confident that this discussion will get somewhere. In Europe, always, these discussions take time and are the result of compromise”.
