Lobster Cave closes its doors after 38 years

·

Melbourne’s iconic seafood restaurant Lobster Cave has shut its doors after 38 years, with owner Bill Ferg confirming the Beaumaris venue has ceased trading following the expiry of its lease and the insolvency of its operating company, Lob Nominees Pty Ltd.

The famed eatery, which opened in 1987 and employed about 60 staff, entered administration in May, with insolvency expert Stephen Dixon of Hamilton Murphy appointed as administrator.

In a farewell message posted to Instagram, Ferg thanked loyal patrons for their support, writing: “From the bottom of our hearts, we extend our sincere gratitude for 38 incredible years of friendship, laughter and unforgettable memories shared at Lobster Cave.”

The post hinted at a possible comeback, adding: “This isn’t goodbye forever, just goodbye for now. Lobster Cave looks forward to welcoming you back in the future to a new Lobster Cave in a new location.”
