This marks the first time in the festival’s three-decade history that it will bring its cinematic celebration to this vibrant and growing community.

The festival will kick off at Riverside Theatres on Thursday, October 16, with a special Metaxa Cocktail Opening Night Event. Attendees will be treated to the highly anticipated film, Kapetan Mihalis, directed by Kostas Haralambous and based on Nikos Kazantzakis’s iconic novel.

This special evening promises to be a memorable celebration of Greek culture and cinema. The 30th Greek Film Festival is determined to make its presence embraced by new audiences who will now have the opportunity to experience its magic in a new, exciting location!

A curated lineup of 15 films has been selected to entertain new audiences in the west. This diverse program includes the best from the festival’s 30th anniversary retrospective, along with a great selection of current Greek productions and family-friendly films.

Craig McMaster, Riverside Theatres Director, stated, “Welcoming the 30th Greek Film Festival of Sydney to Riverside for the first time is a big step in our growing multicultural film-festival program. It joins the cohort of great festivals we’ve hosted that showcase cinema from across the world in Western Sydney. We’re thrilled to partner with the Greek Film Festival team and can’t wait to share the spirit and storytelling of Greek film with our community this October.”

Harry Danalis, President of the Greek Orthodox Community of NSW, stated, “This expansion is a significant milestone for the Greek Film Festival of Sydney. It’s a testament to the festival’s growth and our commitment to making Greek culture and film accessible to an even wider audience. We are incredibly proud to partner with Riverside Theatres to bring this special event to the heart of Western Sydney.”
