Neoléa successfully hosted its traditional Lambatha Workshop at Olympic Hall on Saturday, April 4, welcoming over 40 children and their families for a fun and hands-on celebration of the Greek Orthodox Easter tradition.
The workshop introduced participants to the cultural significance of the lambatha – a traditional Easter candle symbolising light, renewal, and celebration. Children had the opportunity to create their own lambathes, learning practical techniques while engaging with the meaning behind this cherished tradition.
Olympic Hall came alive with energy as the young children filled the space with creativity and excitement. The experience extended beyond the children, with parents and grandparents joining in, making it a shared moment of connection, learning, and fun across generations.
“After missing the Lambatha workshop last year, it was heartwarming to see such a fantastic turnout this year,” said Anastasia Mavrides, Chair of Neolea. “It was really special to watch families creating memories together and embracing the spirit of Easter through this tradition.”

From colourful, Easter-themed lambathes to more traditional and religious designs, each handcrafted creation was a reflection of the individuality and creativity of its maker. The variety of lambathes highlighted the importance of keeping cultural traditions alive in a way that everyone can enjoy and connect with.
The success of the workshop highlights Neoléa’s commitment to building connections between young Greek Australians and their cultural roots.

The Lambatha workshop, in particular, aimed to create a welcoming, family-friendly space where tradition and creativity came together before Greek Orthodox Easter.
With a strong sense of community, the workshop showed Neolea’s continued commitment to bringing people together across generations to learn, connect, and celebrate their heritage and cultural roots.
