Friendships and philanthropy at the Pan Hellenic Women’s Federation vasilopita picnic

·

The Pan Hellenic Women’s Federation of Australia recently hosted its annual Vasilopita picnic at Linear Park in Taylors Lakes, Victoria, bringing together members and friends for a joyful day of celebration, connection, and generosity.

Fortunately, the weather was kind, allowing everyone to relax and fully enjoy the outdoor setting.

The event reflected the true spirit of the federation, with attendees spanning generations – from as young as 10 years old through to 80 – highlighting the organisation’s inclusive nature and its commitment to uniting women across all stages of life.

The picnic provided a welcoming environment for long-standing members and newcomers alike, with many women meeting for the first time and forming new friendships. This sense of unity and meaningful connection remains one of the federation’s greatest strengths.

A highlight of the day was the traditional cutting of the Vasilopita, a cherished custom symbolising good fortune and blessings for the year ahead. The ‘Flouri’ (lucky coin) was found by Eftychia, to whom warm congratulations were extended, along with wishes for health, happiness, and prosperity in the year ahead.

The federation also took the opportunity to demonstrate its strong commitment to philanthropy and community support.

It was announced that a donation of $400 will be made to the Heliades Women’s Network, which is currently fundraising following a tragic incident involving a young Greek tourist who was seriously injured in Perth and now requires medical repatriation to Greece.

This contribution reflects the federation’s ongoing dedication to supporting causes that affect the Greek community both locally and internationally.

Looking ahead, members are already eagerly anticipating the federation’s next major event on Sunday, 8 March 2026, when the federation will proudly join 17 other Hellenic and Cypriot organisations to celebrate International Women’s Day.

The event will be held at 495 Lygon Street, Brunswick East, and will focus on recognising the achievements of women, strengthening collaboration among organisations, and continuing the shared commitment to empowerment, unity, and community engagement.

The federation extended its sincere gratitude to the committee for their continued dedication and hard work, as well as to all those who attended and contributed to making the Vasilopita picnic such a meaningful and successful gathering.
