Faith, screens and society: Key insights from day two of the 2nd Clergy Synaxis

·

The 2nd Pan-Australian Clergy Synaxis continued on Tuesday, September 30, at the Parish–Community of the Resurrection of Christ in Kogarah, under the auspices of the Holy Eparchial Synod of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia.

This year’s theme was “Social Media and the Priesthood: The Use of Social Media by the Clergyman.”

Presentations covered a wide range of perspectives, including Metropolitan Ioustinos of Nea Krini and Kalamaria on fears of the end times in social media, Metropolitan Damaskinos of Aetolia and Akarnania on pastoral care in the digital era, and Bishop Athinagoras of Canberra on behavioural models online.

Other speakers included Bishop Christophoros of Kerasounta on authentic witness in the digital age, Patriarchal Deacon Fr Photios Poulopoulos on the Ecumenical Patriarchate’s online ministry, Archimandrite Eusebios on vigilance in the age of screens, Protopresbyter Fr Christos Dimolianis on social media and thought, and Presbyter Fr Panteleimon Toumpelekis on guiding the faithful from screens to the sacraments.

Each session prompted reflection and discussion, with His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia offering closing remarks at the end of the day.
