Doxology marks arrival of Patriarchal delegation in Sydney ahead of clergy synaxis

·

On Thursday, September 25, a Doxology was celebrated at the Cathedral of the Annunciation of Our Lady in Redfern, Sydney to welcome the Patriarchal delegation and distinguished guests of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia.

The service preceded the second Pan-Australian Clergy Synaxis, which will take place from 29 September to 1 October 2025.

The Doxology was led by His Eminence Metropolitan Apostolos of Miletus, representative of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.

His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, members of the Holy Eparchial Synod, hierarchs, clergy, and faithful from Sydney attended, alongside visiting Metropolitans from Greece, Africa, the United States, and Mount Athos.

At the conclusion, Archbishop Makarios warmly welcomed the delegates, expressing confidence that their wisdom and example would enrich the Clergy Synaxis.

Reflecting on last year’s Patriarchal visit, he noted it was “an historic milestone for our ecclesiastical life” which reaffirmed the enduring bond with the Mother Church.

The Archbishop also highlighted the adoption of the Archdiocese’s new Constitution as “a truly invaluable blessing,” praising the establishment of six episcopal districts and the Holy Eparchial Synod as reforms that “knocked down walls of alienation and isolation” and gave renewed strength to the mission of the Church in Australia.

In response, Metropolitan Apostolos conveyed the blessing of the Ecumenical Patriarch, assuring the faithful that the link between the Phanar and Australia remains “strong and unbreakable.”
