Dimitra Georgantzoglou highlighted: “It is a great honour to take on my duties in Melbourne and to collaborate with such an active and passionate diaspora. Providing prompt and effective service to Greeks abroad is a primary priority, with the aim of facilitating their daily lives. Our collaboration with the Greek Community of Melbourne is crucial in achieving these goals.”

Georgantzoglou also stressed the importance of digitising consular services, which has already started to simplify access to public services, making procedures more immediate and accessible.

Bill Papastergiadis OAM stated: “The GCM is an organisation that strives to maintain and strengthen its bonds with Greece. We are proud of our collaboration with the Consulate General and the support it offers to the diaspora. I am confident that, with Ms Georgantzglou, we will develop even more initiatives that promote unity and prosperity for Greeks in Melbourne.”

During the meeting, the President of the GCM briefed the Consul General on the Community’s upcoming activities and events, such as the 2025 “Antipodes” Festival, which will take place on February 22-23, as well as the traditional celebrations of Greek Independence Day on March 25.

Both parties agreed to work closely together to jointly address any challenges that may arise for the diaspora and to strengthen the relationship of trust and collaboration between the Greek community and the Greek authorities.
