Students celebrate Greek culture at ‘Stories of the World’ immersion day in Victoria

·

The Modern Greek Teachers Association of Victoria (MGTAV) has successfully delivered its Stories of the World Immersion Day at the Victorian School of Languages (VSL) South Oakleigh campus, offering students a dynamic and engaging celebration of Greek language and culture.

The program brought together students for a full day of interactive learning, designed to immerse participants in the richness of Hellenic culture through creative and hands-on experiences.

Students took part in a diverse range of activities, including story writing, storytelling and dramatic performance, alongside practical workshops such as drawing, traditional Greek dance, vase crafting, and komboloi (worry beads) making.

The day was marked by high levels of enthusiasm and participation, with students embracing each activity and expressing their creativity with confidence and joy.

MGTAV extended its sincere thanks to the VSL school community for its warm hospitality and support in hosting the initiative, which provided a valuable opportunity to connect with students in a meaningful and culturally enriching environment.

The initiative forms part of MGTAV’s broader commitment to strengthening language education and cultural engagement across Victoria. Supported by the Department of Education, the association continues to expand access to immersive language programs, particularly within government school settings, in line with its funding objectives.

The association also acknowledged the vital contribution of its volunteers and supporters, whose dedication — from planning and coordination to on-the-day facilitation — was instrumental in the program’s success.

At the conclusion of the immersion day, students proudly took home their handmade creations, along with small gifts generously provided by MGTAV and its supporters.

MGTAV said programs such as Stories of the World play a key role in fostering cultural awareness, creativity and a lifelong appreciation for language learning, and expressed its intention to bring similar initiatives to other school communities in the future.
