More than 70 members and friends of Anemones recently gathered in a warm, uplifting atmosphere to mark International Women’s Day with an event dedicated to supporting women’s wellbeing.
Psychologist Dr Helen Kalaboukas offered practical, down‑to‑earth guidance for nurturing health and encouraging women to prioritise self‑care, build supportive relationships, set healthy boundaries and make space for rest and reflection.
Dr. Kalaboukas highlighted the essential pillars of wellbeing: physical, mental and emotional health, good sleep, balance between work and life, and joy through meaningful social connection.

Guests joined in a lively discussion, sharing everyday practices that help them stay grounded. Daily walks, water aerobics, dancing, singing, learning something new, meditation, gratitude and volunteering. The message was clear: caring for yourself helps you better care for those who rely on you.
Journalist Dina Gerolymou spoke on the UN’s 2026 theme, “Balancing the Scales,” highlighting ongoing inequalities in the workforce and the impact of motherhood on women’s career opportunities. She called for continued progress towards fairness and equal recognition.

Three Anemones members, Voula Psaroudis, Maro Kalifatidis and Eva Karpetis, were acknowledged for their resilience and commitment to maintaining a healthy and balanced lifestyle. While facing their own health challenges and caring for family members, they continued to attend group activities and remained actively involved in the community, inspiring others with their strength and commitment to their wellbeing.

The evening ended with joyful dancing and warm conversation over supper, reinforcing the value of movement, connection and shared moments.
The President, Nola Radiotis, sincerely thanked Dr Kalaboukas, Ms Gerolymou, Bronwyn Halfpenny MP for Thomastown and all who attended and contributed to the celebration.
