The Cyprus Community of NSW have announced they will be holding elections on Sunday, May 29 from 10am to 6pm at the Cyprus Club and call their financial members to participate and elect the new board who will direct the community for the next two years.
There are two groups of candidates in the running this year with current Treasurer, Andrew Antoniou, at the helm of one group called ‘A Better Future,’ and Jim David leading the second group called ‘Save the Cyprus Club.’
‘Save the Cyprus Club’ under Mr David has promised to focus on six key priorities if elected. These are: (1) Rezone and redevelop, (2) Community not charity, (3) Save our heritage, (4) Renewal and Stanmore, (5) Better Governance, and (6) Youth, elders, our future.
‘A Better Future’ under Mr Antoniou will focus on making “the necessary changes to see our community advance its culture, advance social and public welfare and promote the respect and tolerance between all our communities that have made Australia the multicultural society it is today.”

Dear Editor,
It is time again for the Cyprus Community of NSW Ltd to go to the polls and elect the nine members who will be the directors of the community for the next 2 years. The Candidates are in, and the community has 21 Members to choose from when voting on Sunday, 29th May 2022.
Voting commences at 10am and closes at 6pm, and we urge as many financial members as possible to make their way to our club and take part in voting.
The role and responsibility of a director comes with great responsibility and constant work to ensure our members and the greater communities’ goals and needs are met. For me personally, it creates an opportunity to keep on learning and adapting to the constantly changing environment that we face as a community. To be the voice of the many who want to be recognised, to pass on the knowledge of what I have learnt in my short years as part of the community and to listen to the stories of our members whose stories need to be passed on and not forgotten.
I am privileged to head a ticket this year, of members who support my vision for a better future for our community. To make the necessary changes to see our community advance its culture, advance social and public welfare and promote the respect and tolerance between all our communities that have made Australia the multicultural society it is today.
I have recruited some familiar names within our community that will give me a better understanding of our history, of our past, of our culture that I can then use to teach the youth within our community, to keep the passion, the language, the dancing and our culture alive for the next generations to enjoy and pass on.
I look forward to our members decision come Sunday and hope we can all work towards a better future for our community.
