Greek community gathers at St Spyridon Parish for enjoyable ‘Family Taverna Night’

Greek families gathered at the church hall of St Spyridon Parish in Kingsford on April 29 to enjoy the first-ever ‘Family Taverna Night.’

The night was a huge success with over 260 people dancing and making the most of the live Greek music by IHO NYX band.

Head of College at St Spyridon, Amelia Katsogiannis (centre) attended the event.

Attendees feasted on delicious Greek food provided by Pelopidas Catering, as well as red dyed eggs in the spirit of Orthodox Easter.

The oldest and youngest people in attendance on the night were also given small gifts by the President of the Board of the Parish, Elia Economou.

Renee Stavrinos, who is a local parishioner along with her husband Harry, told The Greek Herald that it felt great “to be out and about” and to “catch up with people we haven’t seen in a long time.”

Another attendee, Eleni Souleles, was dancing with her young granddaughter on the dancefloor when The Greek Herald spoke with her and she also said she was happy to be at the taverna night.

“We’re loving it! It’s beautiful and I highly recommend that you attend the next one,” Eleni said with a laugh.

At the conclusion of the event, Mr Economou couldn’t wipe the smile on his face and confirmed to The Greek Herald that a second ‘Family Taverna Night’ is definitely in the works.

“The night was a fantastic success. What a genuinely amazing family night. The kids had a ball. And the parents thoroughly enjoyed the live music by IHO NYX. What a great band for kefi and diaskèdasi. The dancefloor was full all night,” Mr Economou said.

“Thanks to all who attended and who helped make this night a success.”
