Greece ranks second worldwide for Blue Flag beaches

·

Greece has once again secured its place among the world’s top beach destinations, ranking second globally with 624 Blue Flag beaches, according to the Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature (EEPF). The achievement places Greece behind only Spain, which recorded more than 642 awarded beaches across the international program’s 51 participating countries, according ekathimerini.com

The Blue Flag distinction recognises beaches that meet high standards for cleanliness, safety, environmental management, and sustainability. Greece continues its strong performance in the program, accounting for 14% of all awarded beaches worldwide and surpassing the 600-award milestone once again.

Among the country’s leading regions, Crete stood out with 154 Blue Flag beaches, while Halkidiki followed with 93.

Globally, the International Blue Flag Committee awarded 4,378 beaches, alongside 747 marinas and 158 tourist boats.

EEPF President Nikos Petrou described the Blue Flag program as an internationally recognised symbol of beach quality and safety for the past 40 years, praising the consistent efforts of municipalities and local authorities that help maintain these standards.
