St Spyridon College has commemorated the 85th anniversary of the Battle of Crete, paying tribute to the courage and sacrifice of those who served during one of World War II’s most significant campaigns.
As part of the commemoration, the College’s Junior Campus Leaders, together with Head of Studies Ms Katergarakis, laid a wreath on behalf of the school in honour of the Australian and Allied servicemen and women who fought during the Battle of Crete in May 1941.
The battle remains deeply significant to both the Greek and Australian communities, symbolising bravery, resistance and the enduring bond forged between Allied soldiers and the people of Crete during the German invasion of the island.
In a statement shared by the College, St Spyridon paid tribute to the courage, sacrifice and service of all those involved in the campaign, noting that their legacy continues to inspire future generations.
“Lest we forget,” the statement concluded.
The commemorative gesture reflects the College’s ongoing commitment to preserving Greek history and honouring the shared wartime connections between Greece and Australia.
