Greek tourism holds firm as Australian travellers stay keen despite global pressures

·

Rising energy costs and airfaces have made travellers more cautious when planning their next holiday, but demand for Greece remains strong, according to a meeting held by the Secretary-General of the Hellenic Tourism Organisation (EOT), Andreas Fiorentinos, with the heads of its overseas offices.

Their discussions focused on developments in the Middle East and their effects on the tourism sector.

“Greece continues to be a highly attractive destination, with steady demand and prospects for further growth despite international challenges,” Fiorentinos said.

“Strengthening connectivity and targeted promotional activities are expected to play a decisive role in maintaining this momentum.”

Interest is growing in less prominent destinations such as Halkidiki and the Ionian Islands. Air connectivity is also set to improve, with five additional weekly flights to Crete starting from 6 June and new routes planned for Kefalonia and the Peloponnese. These changes will further strengthen Greece’s tourism outlook.

When reviewing international markets, the EOT noted that Australia’s attitudes towards Greece are positive and that the country’s main concern is transit issues via the Middle East hubs.
