Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis held a brief “introductory” meeting with newly appointed US Ambassador to Greece, Kimberly Guilfoyle, during an Atlantic Council event in New York.
Guilfoyle, a former senior adviser to Donald Trump and high-profile political fundraiser, will be sworn in on Monday and is expected to arrive in Athens at the end of October to officially take up her post.
Speaking at the gathering, which was organised by the Atlantic Council in partnership with Antenna Group, Mitsotakis underlined Greece’s position as a strategic connector between regions.
He stressed the country’s potential as a political, commercial and energy hub linking India and the Gulf states with Europe, while also serving as a natural investment destination for Gulf capital.
The meeting was held within the framework of the AEGGIS (Alliance for Europe-Gulf Geopolitics & Investments Summit) initiative, which aims to strengthen cooperation between the European Union and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). Mitsotakis emphasised that Greece can play a leading role in this expanding partnership.
