Gogglebox star Anastasia Katselas undergoes emergency cancer surgery

·

Gogglebox Australia personality Anastasia Katselas has revealed she underwent emergency surgery after being diagnosed with uterine cancer.

Katselas said the diagnosis came a little over a week ago following a doctor’s appointment, which led to her hospital admission on Tuesday, August 19, for an emergency hysterectomy. She returned home on Thursday, August 21, and is now recovering.

“It was a big scare, but thank God they caught it early and I am fine,” Katselas shared on social media. “I’m just a bit sore (but) recovering well.”

She urged women not to delay health checks: “Make sure that you do your pap smears regularly, don’t wait, don’t forget about it. I used to do them regularly and (then) I can’t remember the last time I went. I happened to go to the doctor because I had a concern, and they did a pap smear and lo and behold a week later I am in hospital.”

Katselas said doctors believe the cancer was caught early, but she is awaiting post-surgery test results. “Hopefully, the doctor said it did not spread, so hopefully I will be OK,” she said.

The reality TV star thanked her doctor, Dr George Tzimourtzis, for acting swiftly. “God saved me again. Thank you God,” she added.

Katselas, who appears on Gogglebox alongside her longtime friend Faye Kontos, is one of the show’s original and most popular cast members.
