Greek energy firm Metka crowned Australia’s top solar farm performer for July

·

Greek energy company Metka’s 82 MW Moura Solar Farm has claimed the title of Australia’s best-performing large-scale solar generation asset for July 2025, according to the latest data from Rystad Energy.

Overall, utility-scale solar and wind projects across the country produced 5,177 GWh of renewable electricity during the month-a 23% increase compared to 4,221 GWh in July last year, pv-magazine-australia.com, has reported.

Rystad senior analyst David Dixon noted that Victoria led in total renewable output, with its wind and solar farms generating 1,640 GWh. New South Wales followed with 1,340 GWh, while Queensland delivered 940 GWh.

Queensland, dominated the solar performance rankings, with 17 of the 20 top-performing PV assets located in the state. Among them, Metka’s Moura Solar Farm stood out with an average capacity factor of 26%.

Other high achievers included Spanish company X-Elio’s 200 MW Blue Grass Solar Farm and the 162 MW Columboola Solar Farm, owned by South Korea’s Hana Financial, both recording capacity factors of 24%.

In contrast, the wind sector saw Western Australia’s 75.6 MW Flat Rocks Wind Farm lead the way with a 58% capacity factor. NSW’s 30 MW and 48.3 MW Woodlawn Wind Farms followed closely, each achieving 51%.

Dixon also highlighted a new milestone for wind power, with the National Electricity Market registering a record 3,740 GWh in wind generation for July. This surpasses the previous record of 3,070 GWh set in June 2023. Wind generation records were also broken across several states: Victoria (1,516 GWh), NSW (858 GWh), South Australia (745 GWh), and Queensland (462 GWh).
