Beloved Queensland mother Emma Sophios dies suddenly during Greece holiday

·

A five-week father-daughter holiday to Greece has ended in heartbreak for Queensland‘s Redlands community, after Emma Sophios, a well-known local mother of two, died suddenly just two days into the trip.

Described as a “rejuvenating getaway,” the European holiday quickly turned to tragedy, leaving family and friends devastated and sparking an outpouring of support.

The Cleveland local was widely recognised for her warm presence while working in customer service for Jones and Co, which operates IGAs in Cleveland, Mount Cotton, and Redland Bay.

Locals fondly recalled her smiling face at the Cleveland IGA and her ability to manage the busy store during after-school rushes with humour and grace.

“She was very good at what she did and could sell you anything from brussels sprouts to chocolates – while making it fun,” said customer Stephany Richards.

Former partner Robert George, father of her children, wrote: “Though Emma and I went our separate ways in life, she will always hold a profound place in my heart for the incredible role she played in bringing our children into this world. Her passing is an unthinkable loss.”

Family, friends, and colleagues have remembered Sophios as genuine, vibrant, and full of love. Gina Jewell, a family friend, said, “Emma will always have a special place in my heart.”

The family is currently working to repatriate her body and arrange funeral services. The cause of death has not yet been made public.
