George Petrou’s ‘The Art of Humanity’ launches at the Australian War Memorial

·

The Art of Humanity, a new book by Cypriot-born Australian artist George Petrou, was officially launched last week at the Australian War Memorial by former Governor-General of Australia David Hurley.

The 400-page publication features vivid portraits and biographical essays on 40 Australians recognised for their humanitarian contributions, including individuals linked to the First World War and five Australians of the Year.

The portraits reflect Petrou’s signature style, also seen in his earlier work The Art of Sacrifice.

As part of the book launch, $50,000 was donated to five charities featured in The Art of Humanity. This was made possible through the purchase of five portraits by Richard Rolf.

The event concluded with a heartfelt speech by Petrou thanking his supporters and the veteran community.
