A glamorous wedding took place on Wednesday, June 18, at the chapel of the luxurious seaside estate Island in Vouliagmeni, followed by a festive Greek celebration. Former Melbourne City and current Middlesbrough goalkeeper Tom Glover tied the knot with the love of his life, Alexia Karavatakis, who hails from the island of Lesvos (Mytilene).

Alexia is the daughter of former footballer and record goal scorer of New South Wales, Steve Karavatakis, while her grandfather, Nikos Karavatakis, is considered one of the most passionate fans of Sydney Olympic.

The international Australian goalkeeper exchanged vows of love and commitment with his Greek Australian bride in the presence of family, friends, and fellow Australian footballers who travelled to Athens from Australia, Germany, and England — all celebrating until dawn in true Greek fashion.

Among the footballers present were: Riley McGree (Middlesbrough), Connor Metcalfe (St. Pauli), Stefan Colakovski (Wellington Phoenix), Nathaniel Atkinson (Melbourne City), and Marco Tilio (Celtic)

In a phone conversation with Alexia’s dad Steve, he mentioned that on Friday morning, the Australian players also met with former Tottenham Hotspur coach Ange Postecoglou at a café in Glyfada.

Following that, Steve and his family travelled to Kefalonia for another football-themed wedding — that of Panagiota Petratos, former player of Newcastle Jets and Sydney Olympic, who has been living permanently in Greece for the past two years. According to him, her three brothers, all professional footballers — Dimitri, Kosta, and Maki Petratos — are also on the island for the occasion.
