A first-home buyer couple successfully purchased a five-bedroom house in Earlwood for $2,871,000 while holidaying in Mykonos, with the girlfriend’s local parents bidding on their behalf during the auction.
The architecturally designed home at 31 Twyford Avenue was guided at $2.4 million with a $2.7 million reserve. Bidding began at the guide and rose in $50,000 increments, with three registered bidders taking part.
Agent William Pereira from Adrian William Real Estate said the couple, who currently live in Griffith and Earlwood, were buying their first home together. Due to the time difference — 3am in Mykonos — they entrusted the bidding to the girlfriend’s parents.
The winning bid beat out a Camperdown couple planning to start a family and a downsizing family from Alexandria. Pereira noted rising construction costs are pushing buyers toward turnkey properties like Twyford Avenue.
Records show the home last sold for $2.5 million in 2022.
