Mural in the making: Coburg’s Kastorian tribute takes shape

·

The Kastoria Club in Coburg North welcomed Dean Kotsianis and Peter Giasoumi from Yitonia on Sunday, May 18, for a special community event as part of a mural transformation project celebrating the history and stories of Melbourne’s Kastorian community.

This comes after the Merri-bek City Council greenlit public consultation for the naming of Kastoria Lane between 217 and 219 Elizabeth Street in North Coburg, a project set to transform a once-neglected alleyway into a vibrant community hub.

Attendees gathered on Sunday to share childhood memories, photos, and stories from Kastoria, contributing to the mural’s design.

The morning included a generous morning tea provided by the club’s committee, followed by traditional Greek coffee prepared by local Kastorian and Married at First Sight star, Martha Kalifatidis.

The day concluded with a celebratory lunch at North Seafood & Grill, hosted by Carlton football legend and proud Kastorian, Ang Christou.

Stay tuned via The Greek Herald for updates on the mural that will bring the Kastoria Club’s rich legacy to life through public art.
