Macarthur FC have signed Socceroos winger Chris Ikonomidis on a two-year contract set to run until the end of the 2025-26 Isuzu UTE A-League season.
The 29-year-old joins the Bulls after a three-season stint at Melbourne Victory where he won the Australia Cup in 2021 and reached the 2024 Grand Final under Tony Popovic.
Ikonomidis played half an hour in Victory’s loss to Central Coast in last season’s title decider, and departed the club days later following the conclusion of his contract.
The former Perth Glory and Western Sydney Wanderers forward says he intends to help Macarthur achieve success across his two seasons in Campbelltown.
“Feels great. I’m super excited to join the Bulls, and really excited to meet my teammates, and almost can’t wait for pre-season to start,” Ikonomidis said.
“I’m looking forward to meeting my teammates, starting training, and starting that whole pre-season process to get fit and then to round one. We want to push it as far as we can this year and from a personal and team point of view.
“I’m excited to meet all the fans. Can’t wait to play in front of you guys at all the home games, and hopefully, we can get lots of wins.”
To go with his 126 Isuzu UTE A-League appearances accrued across stints at Glory, Victory and Wanderers, Ikonomidis also spent a significant portion of his early career in Italy as SS Lazio and US Salernitana 1919.
Ikonomidis is Macarthur’s fourth new recruit of the 2023-24 season. He joins former Sydney FC captain Luke Brattan and Melbourne City winger Marin Jakoliš at the Bulls, while inaugural squad member Liam Rose returns for a second stint in Campbelltown.
