NRL’s most influential figures for 2023 has been revealed with four Australians of Greek heritage being recognised for their contributions to the sport. They are:

Pappas is one of the most respected and revered figures in the game. As Souths chair, he is at the helm of one of the game’s most powerful clubs. Touted as a future ARL Commissioner, he has been given the task of heading up talks with the NRL over new licensing agreements.

16. Braith Anasta

Anasta stepped into the hottest seat in the game after Ben Ikin vacated it and instantly looked at home. Thanks to his role as NRL360 host, he sets the agenda daily, dissecting the game’s biggest issues and holding clubs and officials to account. In his role as a player agent, he looks after Melbourne superstar Cameron Munster and South Sydney half Lachlan Ilias.

13. Nick Politis

The Roosters chair remains as passionate as ever about the game and his beloved Sydney Roosters. Politis carries enormous influence in the corridors of power at the NRL and among his fellow club bosses. When he talks, the entire game listens.

3. Peter V’landys

The ARL Commission chair remains the undisputed king of rugby league. The code has thrived under his leadership and his influence in Australian sport, which was illustrated in October when he spent time in the presence of US President Joe Biden at the White House after an invitation from Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. He is also the Racing NSW chief executive.
