Holiday season returns to Athens with 17 metre Christmas tree

A 17-metre Christmas tree was lit in Syntagma Square by the outgoing Mayor of Athens, Kostas Bakoyannis on Thursday, November 23, creating a joyful atmosphere across the Greek city.

According to Ekathimerini, along with the 17 metre tree, a total of 24,000 LED lights lit up the area, instantly spreading magic and Christmas cheer to everyone who had come to witness the festive event.

In a post on X, Bakoyannis shared his excitement for Christmas during this annual tradition.

“Christmas, the most beautiful time of the year is approaching. Young and old, we are counting down!”
