Stefanos Ntouskos to be first torchbearer for Paris 2024 Olympics

·

The Greek rowing champion Stefanos Ntouskos has been given the honour of bearing the first torch for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Ntouskos is known for winning gold in the men’s single sculls at the Tokyo Games in 2021.

Ekathimerini reported that the announcement was made during a meeting with Greece’s Olympic Committee on Wednesday, 22 November.

The Olympic flame will be lit in Greece’s ancient Olympia, where the Olympic Games were first held on April 16.

The high priestess will pass the flame to the rowing champion. Then, following this, an 11-day relay will take place with the help of 600 torch bearers across Greece’s mainland and seven islands.

The flame will then be handed over to the Paris Olympic Games organisers in Athens on April 26, where Ioannis Fountoulis, a water polo Olympic silver medallist will receive and bear the final torch.
