EU calls on Turkey to reaffirm support of UN resolutions on Cyprus issue

A report from the European Union on the 2023 enlargement policy has called on Turkey to reaffirm its commitment the United Nations’ resolutions on the Cyprus issue.

According to Cyprus Mail, the report said “Turkey is expected to actively support the negotiations on a fair, comprehensive, and viable settlement of the Cyprus issue within the UN framework…”

Regarding the re-opening of ghost town Varosha, the EU report said Turkey “must immediately reverse the unilateral actions announced on 20 July 2021, and all steps taken since October 2020 that run contrary to relevant UNSC resolutions.”

The report added that Ankara should not take actions that could raise tensions on the island and prevent the resumption of talks.
