Australian Ambassador meets with Greece’s Deputy Defence Minister

Australia’s Ambassador to Greece, Alison Duncan, met with Greece’s Deputy Defence Minister Giannis Kefalogiannis in Athens.

During the meeting, Ambassador Duncan and Mr Kerfalogiannis spoke about the Remembrance Trail which is being built on the Greek island of Lemnos to commemorate its ANZAC history.

The Australian Government has allocated $4.9 million for the Lemnos Remembrance Trail.

Expected to be completed in 2024, the trail is being created in recognition of the Australian doctors, nurses and other service personnel who served on the Greek island during the First World War.

In a post on Twitter, Ambassador Duncan said she had an “excellent discussion with the Deputy Defence Minister” about the trail.

“We’re both very much looking forward to the #LemnosMemorialTrail which will commemorate the WW1 history of this special island,” she said.
