A special ceremony took place in France on Wednesday, October 4, to officially inaugurate the first Greek frigate ‘Kimon.’

Ekathimerini reported that the unveiling of the warship was held at the Naval Group Shipyards in the French city of Lorient.

In attendance at the ceremony were Greek Defence Minister Nikos Dendias and French counterpart Sebastien Lecornu.

Mr Dendias said the new ‘Kimon’ frigate, along with the ‘Nearchos’ and ‘Formionas’ frigates, “will spearhead the Greek Navy.”

Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, added in a post on social media: “today is a day of joy and pride for our Navy, but also for all Greeks.”

The new frigate, Kimon, is expected to set sail in Greek waters in 2025.
