Postecoglou vows to restore Nottingham Forest to ‘rightful place’

·

Ange Postecoglou says he is determined to take Nottingham Forest back to its “rightful place” in English football, declaring: “I love winning things — that’s what I’ve done.”

Four months after guiding Tottenham to the Europa League title, the 60-year-old Australian has arrived at the City Ground with his Spurs backroom team, including Mile Jedinak, Nick Montgomery, Sergio Raimundo and Rob Burch.

“I’m honoured and humbled, but more importantly I’m determined to make sure this football club takes its rightful place,” Postecoglou said.

“It’s a fantastic football club with great history … I’m excited and I’m looking forward to it.”

Forest fans will hope Postecoglou’s attacking style can revive memories of Brian Clough’s European Cup-winning sides of 1979 and 1980. The club has not competed in Europe for decades, but will do so this season after Nuno Espírito Santo’s departure.

Postecoglou said he wants supporters to expect both success and excitement: “I love my teams to attack. I love my teams to score goals. That’s sometimes misconstrued … but the reason I want my team to play that way is because I love winning things — and that’s what I want to do here.”
